WESTERPUNT OBSERVATION

STUDIO MOTO

Located in Belgium, the Westerpunt Observation Tower was designed by Studio MOTO to blend harmoniously with the coastal landscape of De Panne. The structure creates a sense of continuity along the path, connecting the promenade to the beach and the sea—not as a final destination, but as a moment of pause and contemplation.

Entirely built in concrete, the tower integrates with its surroundings through its texture and color, while offering resistance to the harsh maritime climate and requiring minimal maintenance. Its base and columns provide structural stability, allowing the tower to cantilever over the beach and the sea.

In plan, the tower takes the shape of an elongated pentagon composed of connected stair segments. Between these segments, strategically placed landings offer different perspectives of the landscape. The design unites form, structure, and function, creating a dynamic and fluid spatial experience where architecture merges with the landscape, reinforcing the relationship between humans and nature.
