CHINA WOOD SCULPTURE MUSEUM

MAD ARCHITECTS, THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF HARBIN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Located in Harbin, China, the China Wood Sculpture Museum, with 12,959 m² of area and 200 meters in length, relies on a prefabricated steel structure supplied by Zhejiang Jing Gong Steel Structure Co. Ltd.
This solution ensured rapid assembly and dimensional precision on-site, reducing timeframes and rework during foundation concreting and the installation of steel columns and beams.
The envelope consists of polished steel panels, digitally optimized by Gehry Technologies and installed with glass systems and frames developed by Inhabit.
This modular facade, produced in a controlled CNC machining process, ensures thermal sealing and watertightness, while allowing the incorporation of twisted skylights to capture diffuse natural light in the three internal halls.
The integration between architecture and structural engineering involved the joint work of MAD Architects, The Architectural Design and Research Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology, and curtain wall and panel optimization specialists.
The result is a building that combines constructive efficiency and thermal performance, meeting durability and comfort requirements to house wood art and thematic exhibitions.
